Heist Movies
Heist movies have been the ultimate in cinematic cool since The Great Train Robbery in 1903. Who doesn’t love these stories of derring-do, wild imagination, crazy risks, naked greed, betrayal, redemption, and revenge? What more could you ask for in an adventure?
Sometimes they’re dramatic (Dog Day Afternoon), sometimes violent (Reservoir Dogs), sometimes glamorous (Ocean’s Eleven), sometimes gritty (Ronin), sometimes cons (The Grifters, The Sting), sometimes even goofy spoofs (Office Space). Sometimes the heist involves a complicated scheme to get an impossible prize; other times the getaway proves more difficult than the crime itself. Yes, there are old formulas at work, but done right heist movies never get old.
